In its storied past, the Shawnee Mission has been a school for Native Americans, a military outpost during the Civil War, and a supply point on the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails. The mission is located near the Kansas City Country Club and the Mission Hill Country Club. Nowadays visitors can visit the twelve-acre sight and steep themselves in the history of the area.
